HOSTAGE
TAKING WILL HAPPEN AGAIN UNLESS... WARNS PROF. BOLAJI AKINYEMI:
From Bolaji Akinyemi comes
a word of caution. He says unless immediate steps are taken to address the
plight of people in the Niger Delta region, abduction of oil workers will
happen again. The Former Foreign Affairs Minister speaks in an interview
with Sunday Vanguard, at his residence in Lagos, against the backdrop of
political tension which he describes as “the mess we found ourselves in this
country”, his assessment of state of the nation is more than a scathing
remark that is not dismissible.

ETHNIC AFFILIATIONS FROM CENSUS DATA-AKINYEMI:
Professor bolaji akinyemi,
former minister of external affairs, ex-director general of the Nigeria
institute of international affairs (NIIA) and the maiden national secretary
of national democratic coalition (NADECO), disagrees with the agitation in
some quarters for the inclusion of religious and ethnic affiliations in the

don, also advocates the adoption of modified open ballot system for the 2007
polls if the country really wants to conduct a credible, free and fair poll

rotational presidency or power shift ahead of the 2007 elections as
undemocratic, in this interview with Temitope Ogunbanke and
Mojisola Alausa in lagos. New Age Newspaper, February 8, 2006 page 11-12. 2006
